Scope of Work:
Project involved the renovation of a 15,500 sf Neo-Classical building built in 1924 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.Repair of glazed terracotta and granite, installation of handicapped ramp, repair of exterior granite stairs and the installation of new handrails and guardrails.Existing windows were replaced with new windows with insulated glass.Abatement of lead paint, new audience seating, flooring, walls, ceilings, doors, mill work, restoration of plaster, and refinishing of existing woodwork. New mechanical system and upgrades to plumbing, electrical, and fire alarm systems.Structural repairs and retrofitting as needed.Numerous existing components were salvaged, restored and incorporated into the new design.

Scope of Work:
Chatham County Courthouse has long been the icon for Pittsboro, NC as many feel the community lies around the traffic circle surrounding this building. The courthouse, sometimes called the center of the town, was built in 1881 and is listed on the National Historic Registry.While undergoing major exterior renovations in 2010, a fire severely damaged the building. What didn't burn or collapse was extensively damaged from smoke and water. Prebid photos below show a sampling of the extensive damage to this building.H.M. Kern Corporation has the honor of being selected to restore this building and make it a showplace for Pittsboro to treasure!

Complete restoration of 15,200 sf R.L. Stowe Textile Mill into a new library facility.New lower level concrete floor was installed. Wood columns were wrapped with steel columns in order to structurally reinforce the first and second floors.Addition of interior stairway and an elevator was constructed to meet egress and AOA requirements.Construction of a new drive-thru canopy.Complete landscaping and parking lot additions.

Renovations to the existing 1924 Old Gym Building to accommodate professional services (audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech language pathology) and a recreation space for K-12 grades.The three-story 13,000 SF brick structure is a contributing structure to the NC School for the Deaf National Register Historic District.Historic restoration and renovations included an entry protico addition and window replacement.General scope includes, but not limited to, a 2,000 SF stair/elevator tower addition, low-slope roof replacement, new slabs on ground floor, new floor structure over abandoned pool, new open stair within existing structure along with all new plumbing, mechanical, electrical and fire protection systems.

Extensive repairs to the historical Theater included repairing and replacing plaster using period-specific materials, repairing hand-carved wood column capitals, repairing wood columns and bases and the reglazing/rebuilding of all exterior wood windows.Also included all new electrical services.
